The pain is evident on his face. The anger is rough. The rebellion is predictable. Marc (Léokim Beaumier-Lépine) has been through something, and I can feel it. Something festers inside his heart that threatens to explode, bringing death, loss, and ruin. Beaumier-Lépine captures this internal struggle so well; the facial expressions and body language are believable, to the point where I begin to fear for him.
The camera angles get right up in his face, but it still felt disconnected from his internal world. Things seemed to escalate to his suicide without understanding how he got there. Since this gives the impression that it is made for the sake of raising awareness, it lacks portraying the cause.
Nevertheless, it is powerful to see a young kid so troubled to the point of ending his life. It does - or should - drive us to ask that question: how did it come to this? We need to understand their pain, so that we can step into it with them, and then offer healing. The film’s title, Invincible, is the antithesis of Marc’s story - no one is invincible, and everyone has a much deeper story beneath the surface.
